Welcome to Mr. Stallsworth's 2020-2021 Kindergarten class! I am looking forward to getting to know your child and helping them grow during this unique school year. As we embark on this journey together, students will need a lot of support, especially when learning the tools and technology used for online learning. There is only so much I can do remotely to teach the necessary technology skills to be successful in online learning, so I am asking for your support and patience with your child as they acquire new skills and learn new programs. I will try to make my assignment instructions as clear, concise, and accessable to students as I can, but they will most likely require an adult's help, at least at first.
Schoolwork and Communication
Schoology is where you will find all classwork and announcements, and many assignments will be completed using Seesaw, Google Drive, Padlet, and the Florida Virtual Learning Curriculm modules. Links to all assignments will be posted in Schoology daily.
ClassDojo is the primary tool I will use for communication with families. Through ClassDojo, families will be able to check on their child's behavior during class, as well as send and recieve messages from teachers, almost like text messaging. ClassDojo also uses Google Translate to automatically translate messages into several different languages if necessary. Our class will utilize Zoom for whole group lessons. A link to join the day's Zoom call is posted on Schoology. To join the call from Schoology, please click the icon for "Morning Meeting." If you are having trouble connecting to these platforms, please contact me via email and I will do my best to help resolve any issues.
You will find the daily schedule for Kindergarten attached below. Every day will start with our Morning Meeting Zoom call at 8:05am where attendance will be taken. On most days, we will stay in that zoom call all day with breaks for recesses and lunch. Students will be dismissed at 3pm.
While Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday will be mostly synchronous learning (teacher-led), Wednesdays will be different. Learning on Wedensdays will be mostly asynchronous (independent) to provide opportunities for teachers and specialists to work with students individually or in small groups and provide targeted instruction. Because of this, your child's Wednesday schedule may vary from week to week depending on the needs of both students and teachers. Students are still expected to attend all one-0n-one/small group lessons scheduled for them that day. Any time when students are not in independent/small group instruction will be spent working on assigned activities independently or with the support of their families. The school day for students will officially end at 11:30am on Wednesdays, but students will be held responsible for completing all independent work assigned. Families may use their discretion as to when students are finished with their classwork for the day, as long as it is after 11:30am.
